Gifts that show commitment?

I have this feeling, more like a knowledge, don't ask me how.. that I am going to be getting a ring this holiday season. Now I know the guy gets the girl the ring, yada yada yada. But since it's Christmas and I have been trying to figure out what to get him as a present, now I think I should probably get him a little more than a package of socks or something. What is something nice that would measure up to what I am receiving, but not too extravagant? Again, I know I don't necessarily need to get something equivalent, but I'd feel stupid if I got a diamond ring and he got plaid underwear.
